Important examination security information

This is a current secure Year 11 examination, not a publicly released practice paper.

The examination and associated secure teacher materials must remain confidential until:

3.00 pm Friday 25 September 2026.

During the security period, the examination and secure teacher resources must not be:

• shared with students before they sit the examination
• uploaded to publicly accessible or student-accessible websites, learning platforms or file-sharing locations
• shared with another school or organisation
• distributed through teacher groups, social media or other online communities
• provided to tutoring organisations or other third parties.

Teachers may print and distribute the examination internally for the purpose of administering the assessment to their own students under the licence purchased.

Student-facing Premium Pack resources should not be distributed until the security period has concluded. This protects the integrity of the examination for schools administering their Year 11 yearly examinations at different times during Term 3.

The 2026 Year 11 HMS Yearly Examination at a glance

The examination follows the current common Year 11 Health and Movement Science yearly examination format:

• Total marks: 75 marks
• Reading time: 5 minutes
• Working time: 2 hours
• Section I: 15 multiple-choice questions – 15 marks
• Section II: short and medium written-response questions – 40 marks
• Section III: two extended-response questions – 20 marks

The paper is designed to provide a broad range of evidence across knowledge, understanding, application and written-response skills, giving teachers considerably more information than a single overall examination percentage.

What does the examination assess?

The examination focuses on the two common Year 11 Health and Movement Science focus areas completed across schools:

• Health for Individuals and Communities
• The Body and Mind in Motion

Questions are designed to assess students’ knowledge and understanding of this common Year 11 content, together with the skills required to interpret, apply, explain, analyse and communicate their understanding in examination conditions.

Collaborative Investigation and school-specific Depth Study content are not directly examined as prescribed content.

Schools may select different Depth Study areas, investigate them to different levels of depth, complete them at different points in the year, or structure this part of the course differently. Excluding school-specific Depth Study content helps ensure the yearly examination remains suitable for a broad range of Year 11 HMS classes.

Students may still draw on the broader skills developed throughout the Year 11 course when responding to questions.

One-school internal-use licence

Purchase provides a licence to use the resources internally within one purchasing school.

The resources may be used by relevant teachers within that school for the purpose of administering, marking, analysing and reviewing the Year 11 HMS yearly examination with that school’s students.

The resources must not be:

• shared with another school
• resold or redistributed
• uploaded publicly or to student-accessible locations before the relevant release/security conditions permit
• rebranded or represented as another organisation’s work
• supplied to tutoring organisations, commercial resource providers or other third parties.

If more than one school wishes to use the examination, each school must purchase its own copy.

Examination security period

The 2026 Year 11 HMS Yearly Examination is a current secure examination until:

3.00 pm Friday 25 September 2026.

Schools purchasing the examination agree to maintain its security throughout this period so that other schools can administer the paper with confidence.

Student-facing Premium Pack resources will be released for use after the security period concludes.

Independently developed for the NSW HMS syllabus

This is an independently developed Health and Movement Science examination and resource system.

It is not an official NESA examination and has not been produced, endorsed or approved by NESA.

The examination has been developed for the NSW Year 11 Health and Movement Science course and assesses the common content from Health for Individuals and Communities and The Body and Mind in Motion, together with relevant examination and response skills.

Collaborative Investigation and school-specific Depth Study content are not directly assessed as prescribed content.
